The characteristics screen allows you to assign attributes to a product. For example, for a sunglasses product type, you would be able to add an image attribute that allows images to be associated to the product. You could also add other attributes like the sun protection level.

The attributes displayed on this screen depend on the chosen product type. New attributes can be created and added to the product type. To manage attributes and product types, please consult the relative help topics.

Only the image, file and document attribute management will be described here. Other types of attribute management are intuitive and will not be described in this help section.

How to ? Assign files or images to standard products or bundles :
1 - Go to the file management screen :
Go to the product page and then to the characteristics screen. You should see an image, file or document attribute. If you do not see an image, file, etc. attribute, consult the How to Assign an Image or File to a Product Type section located at the bottom of this help screen.



2 - Click on Add Files

3 - Select a file from the multi-media library or add a new file to the library :
a. Select an existing file from the library: If the file that you would like to assign to a product is already available in the library, select it.
b. File Upload: You can add a file that you would like to assign to a product if it is not available in the library. In the multi-media library, go to the folder where you would like to add the file and click Upload. Browse the files on your computer and upload them to the media library.

4 - Optional step: Managing tags :
a. If your image already exists in the library, verify that the tags are correct. Tags are useful for displaying the right image on a website (according to the tag).
b. After adding an image, enter in the tags (separated by (;) semi-colons). Click on the Save button located right below the tag field.

5 - Optional step: Managing translations of image descriptions :
a. If your image already exists in the library, verify that the translations of the image descriptions are correct in the all the languages available on the website. This information is very useful for web indexing your site.
b. After adding an image, enter the name, title, alternative text, and image description in all the languages available on the website and click on the Save button.

6 - Assign one or more images to a product :
a. To assign one or more images to a product, select the desired image and double click or drag and drop the image in the "your selection" area.

7 - Finally, click on Add to Selection to validate the assignment of one or several images to the product.

How to ? Assign files or images to variable products :
This works exactly the same for product variants, except managing files, documents or images is done from the variant management screen. In fact, each variant of a product generally has a different image.

How to ? Assign an image characteristic to a product type :
Files and images are available in the characteristics management screen or in the variant management screen only if the product type has an image or file characteristic.
If you do not see this characteristic for the product that you would like to modify, follow these steps:
1 - Go to the Products>Attributes section and verify that the image, file or document characteristic has in fact been defined or created.
2 - Go to Products>Product Type and assign the characteristic to a product type.
Next, go to the product page and verify that you are able to manage images in the characteristic page or in the variant screen (for variable products)
